What you should know about stackable washers and dryers

There are pros and cons to every type of appliance out there and this includes stackable washers and dryers.  The biggest plus for these machines is the issue of space for your home.  They are smaller in percentage dimension that a regular washer and dryer and can stack one on top of the other.

You will need to be aware that front loading washers can be prone to fungi.  It this occurs you will smell an odorous smell.  This has not been resolved with this model, but it can be avoided by keeping the door open when not in use to allow ventilation of the drum.  In doing so, this will prevent this issue from happening in most circumstances.

In order to use a stackable washer and dryer, you must be able to bend over to remove clothing from the washer and reach overhead to place them in the dryer. Depending on your range of mobility, this may be easier to reach into a top loading washer and bending to place clothes into a dryer.  So when you are looking for a stackable take this issue into consideration.

It is best to buy the stackable washer and dryer together.  This is because many units either come in one piece together or are made to stack one on top of the other.  If you get two different brands of machines you may have difficulty getting them to fit.  So avoid this issue and buy them together.

Other options available for stacking

If you really want to you can make any washer and dryer a stackable.  There are kits out there you can purchase to help you accomplish this.  You will need two machines that are both front loading units to stack them.  You will also need assistance stacking them as these appliances are heavy and you do not want to injure yourself.
